JOTA from Halle/Saale is, for me, one of the most exciting today’s hardcore bands in a growing east german scene. Abandoning all clichés of how a band should sound, this record comes from a point of darkness, despair and self-reflection. slow, downtuned parts alternate with blast beats and high-energy midtempo rhythms, on the edge of dark hardcore and post-hardcore, and this whole thing – without being a revival or copycat – has a certain GLASSES / TRAINWRECK / GHOSTLIMB feeling to me. this is JOTA’s debut record, but you may know some of the members like the singer Nicole from other bands (for example WREST). one side contains their 2023 „Cold“ EP, the other one the new „Haven“ recording.
